COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Abby Cotuna of the Air Force Women's Tennis team was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.
In Air Force's lone match against Army on Feb. 14, Cotuna picked up a pair of wins in both stages of competition. In doubles, Cotuna/Sofia Mavor scored their first win of the spring season in a shutout doubles set, downing 9-0 Army duo Olivia Mellynchuk/Emily Ruckno. Cotuna's collective performances shined through in a 4-2 loss to West Point at College MatchDay in Orlando.
In singles play, Cotuna defeated Army's Madison Smith, 6-4, 6-3, to pick up her second win of the season while snapping a six-match win streak for the West Point junior.
Cotuna continues to show out in her return campaign, now sitting at 6-3 as a singles competitor for the 2025-26 season. On the heels of a 14-day tryout taking place just days ahead of Air Force's 2025-26 fall debut, Cotuna made a rapid return to the Falcon lineup in time to represent the Academy at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains. Cotuna, competing in the Charlie singles bracket, finished with an unblemished 4-0 record in the Falcons' home tournament with a singles title in hand.
In her freshman season, Cotuna was a three-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week, combining for a 21-6 doubles record and a 16-8 mark in singles. The now-senior amassed a 4-1 record in the 2023 Mountain West Championship including a 3-0 run in singles competition, spearheading Air Force's run to its first-ever runner-up finish in postseason play.
