Air Force Boxing Set to Kick Off Wing Open Tournament

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – An exciting month of Academy boxing begins tomorrow (Feb. 4), as Air Force kicks off the 68th Wing Open Tournament with first round competition in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. The Wing Open, which began with just four bouts in 1958, has grown into one of the most anticipated events on the cadet schedule.

Wednesday, Feb. 4: Opening Round | 4:30 p.m. | Cadet Gym
Friday, Feb. 13: Second Round | 4:30 p.m. | Cadet Gym
Friday, Feb. 20: Third Round | 4:30 p.m. | Cadet Gym
Friday, Feb. 27: Championship Round | 6:00 p.m. | Clune Arena
The tournament gets underway on Wednesday with two first round bouts in the 156-pound weight division. Leshan Chen will face Ruslan Damron and Ryan Pollock will take on Andrew Micah-Mossman during opening round action.
The champions of the Wing Open will form the nucleus of the Air Force squad that will represent the Academy at the upcoming National Collegiate Boxing Association [NCBA] regional and national championship events. Regional action will take place March 12-14 in Reno, while the national championships will take place in Charlotte, N.C., on April 9-11.
Admission is free for the first three rounds of the Wing Open Tournament, while tickets for the finals can be purchased at AFTickets.com. The finals also will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
