Air Force Opens Western Regional with 2-0 Night

RENO, Nev. -- Two members of the Air Force boxing team – junior Freddy Ceciliano Jr. and sophomore Oude Owino – opened competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association Western Regional with victories on Thursday [March 12] night in Reno. Backed by split decision wins, the pair advanced out of the quarterfinal round and gave the Falcons a 2-0 start to the tournament.
Ceciliano kicked off the 10-bout quarterfinal round with a 119-pound decision over California's Christian Fernandez, while Owino earned his first regional win by decisioning Washington's Chissom Okafor in a 185-pound contest.
The Falcons are back at the Eldorado Casino ballroom tomorrow [March 13] for Night 2 of the NCBA Western Regional. Eight teammates are scheduled to join Ceciliano and Owino in the semifinal round.
