
Women’s Tennis Drops 4-1 Contest to UNLV

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – On Sunday, Air Force Women's Tennis got out to a strong start in singles play after picking up a doubles win, but the Falcons ultimately fell 4-1 to UNLV in Cadet East Gym.
For the fifth-straight match, Air Force secured the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage to open competition. Senior Arianna Van Houweling and sophomore Shivanni Selvan were first to claim victory. The duo built up a 5-1 lead before putting away Eszter Kis-Czako/Veronika Kliuch, 6-3. Van Houweling/Selvan's fourth-straight win improved the pairing to 8-2 in dual doubles, while snapping Kis-Czako/Kliuch's four-match win streak. After a Falcon defeat on line three (Kaho Oyama/Sofiia Soklovak vs. Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades, 6-4), No. 64 Falcon duo Abby Cotuna/Sofia Mavor pulled off a 6-4 doubles clincher over Hudson Hawkins/Nicole Mircheva after trailing 4-3 in their set.
In singles, the Falcons went down on lines two (Nikol Mircheva vs. Van Houweling, 6-2, 6-2), one (Kliuch vs. Cotuna, 6-4, 6-1), three (Hudson Hawkins vs. Mavor, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3) and four (Kis-Czako vs. Yule Kang, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1) in order. Mavor and Kang both forced three-set matches after picking up a win in the first but both fell in the third.
On lines five and six, Rhoades and junior Nadia Kojonroj trailed in the opening stages of their singles matches when UNLV secured the clinch.
