Air Force Falls 4-1 at No. 43 San Diego State

SAN DIEGO – On Sunday afternoon, Air Force Women's Tennis wrapped up its four-match road stretch falling 4-1 to the No. 43 San Diego State Aztecs.

The Falcons dropped their first doubles point in their last nine matches. No. 85 Air Force duo Abby Cotuna and Sofia Mavor fell 6-2 to No. 50 Jo-Yee Chan/Vessa Turley. On the second flight, Arianna Van Houweling and Shivaani Selvan dropped a 6-3 decision to SDSU's Jayna Clemens/Ninon Martinache, 6-3, to cede the opening point. On line three, 7-1 Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades were locked into a one-game set with Aztec pair Gloria Alogo/Liisa Varul and led 5-4 when the Aztecs clinched.

In singles, junior Nadia Kojonroj notched Air Force's lone point of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Varul. In the match, Kojonroj led the first set by as much as 4-1 and battled back from an early deficit in the second. The junior won three-straight games to secure victory.

Air Force fell on lines six (Vessa Turley def. Rhoades, 6-2, 6-2), four (Vesa Gjinaj def. Mavor, 6-0, 6-2) and three (Jayna Clemens def. Yule Kang, 6-1, 6-4) to secure an SDSU win. Cotuna, facing Chan on line one, took a 6-4 opening set and fell 6-2 in the second; Van Houweling dropped a 6-3 set to Alogo on line two and led 4-3 in the second. Both senior's matches went unfinished due to clinch.

Air Force Women's Tennis makes its return to the Academy next week, hosting Wyoming and CSU on Thursday, Apr. 2 (10 a.m. MT) and Saturday, Apr. 4 (11 a.m. MT).
