Texas Tanner Earns Return Trip to NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second-straight year, Air Force senior Texas Tanner earned a pair of bids to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The national selection committee released the championship field for next week's meet in Arkansas last night (March 4), with Tanner earning bids in both the shot put and weight throw.

Backed by a pair Air Force Records, Tanner is ranked second in the weight throw (24.18 meters, 79'4") and tied for ninth in the shot put (19.83 meters, 65'0¾") entering the national meet. He is one of just three throwers in the country to qualify to the NCAA Indoor Championships in both throwing events.

Tanner, who became the first thrower in Air Force men's history to qualify to the indoor championships last season, is now just the second Air Force field athlete to earn a repeat bid to the national meet – joining Shelley Spires, who competed in the high jump in 2016-17. The Mountain West champion and Air Force record-holder will compete in the weight throw on Friday, March 13 (4:00 pm CT) and in the shot put on Saturday, March 14 (1:00 pm CT).
