Air Force Falls 4-1 To San Diego State at CU1 Men’s Tennis Championships

Seven-seed Air Force men's tennis fell to two-seed San Diego State (12-11), 4-1, in the opening round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championships, held Wednesday, April 22 at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After dropping a tough doubles round, the Falcons were unable to turn things around in singles as the Aztecs pulled away.

Air Force opened doubles with the first win, as Phillip Deaton and Matthew Staton won at No. 3 over Anderson/Johann 6-2. San Diego State rallied by taking No. 1 doubles as the pair of Jack Brown and Tyler Leaird fell to Kleege/Loftman 6-3. The Aztecs clinched with a win at No. 2 as the pair of AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf fell to Fitzmaurice/Hazli 7-5.

San Diego State immediately went up 3-0 with singles wins at No. 3 and 2. Deaton fell at No. 3 and Brown at No. 2 in straight sets.

Tingleaf made it a 3-1 match as his win at No. 4 over Finn Willman in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 got the Falcons on the board.

The Aztecs clinched with the win at No. 5, as Alec Fritzinger fell 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.

"I am so grateful for this incredible team. Our season ended in a well fought match today, but we hold our heads high. The entire team stepped up and competed. Matt and Phil battled to give us an opportunity in doubles, and Langdon brought impressive energy all throughout in singles. This is a special group, and I'm privileged to coach them. I also appreciate all the support from the Falcon faithful all year. Go Falcons!"

Air Force caps the season with a 9-13 record. The Falcons graduate three seniors in Phillip Deaton, Jack Brown and AJ Moore.
