Air Force Falls to No. 7 Oregon State on the Road

CORVALLIS, Ore., - Falcon baseball (24-25) fell, 7-4, to No. 7 Oregon State (42-11) on Thursday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Air Force tallied five hits on the evening, while the pitching staff combined for six strikeouts.

At the plate, Tripp Garrish paced the Falcons with a two-run homer, while Walker Zapp finished 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Aiden Poe (4-3) earned the start, tossing 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Marcus Downing added 2.1 innings of relief with one strikeout, while Gunner Gilmore delivered 2.1 shutout innings and struck out two batters. Davis Rhyne closed the final frame with a strikeout.

Air Force got right to business, going up 2-0 in the top of the first. T.J. Oster reached on a walk before Ben Niednagel singled to put two aboard. Zapp ripped a double down the left field line to score the Falcons' first run, and Niednagel later crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Oregon State answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to even the score before taking control with a four-run third inning to move ahead 6-2. The Beavers added another run in the fifth for a 7-2 advantage.

The Falcons threatened late in the ninth inning when Garrish launched his 11th home run of the season to dead center, cutting the deficit to 7-4, but Air Force could not complete the comeback.

Game two will take place on Friday May 15 at 5:35 p.m. PT/6:35 p.m. MT at Coleman Field.
