Colorado Springs, CO – The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation (CSSC) is proud to announce the 2026 Induction class of the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame, a distinguished lineup that reflects the city's rich athletic history, dedication to excellence, and profound impact on local and national sport.
Luis "Lou" Sagastume built one of the most respected soccer legacies in Colorado Springs through decades of excellence as a player, coach, mentor, and ambassador for the game. Born in Guatemala and raised in San Francisco, Sagastume starred as a midfielder at the University of San Francisco, helping lead the Dons to the 1966 NCAA National Championship while earning All-America honors and later induction into the USF Hall of Fame. Following his collegiate career, he played professionally with the Oakland Clippers and later served as player-coach for the San Antonio Thunder.
Sagastume's greatest impact came on the sidelines. Beginning in 1979, he transformed the U.S. Air Force Academy men's soccer program into a national contender during a 28-year tenure that produced 282 victories, nine conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and 20 winning seasons. His 1993 Falcons team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight after defeating top-ranked Creighton in one of the biggest wins in program history. He became one of only a select group of Division I coaches to surpass 300 career victories and twice earned both MPSF Coach of the Year and Midwest Region Coach of the Year honors.
Beyond Air Force, Sagastume dedicated himself to growing soccer throughout Colorado Springs. He guided St. Mary's High School to its first boys soccer state championship in 2010 and continued mentoring young athletes through local clubs, camps, and coaching education programs. Lou Sagastume's lifelong commitment to leadership, player development, and the advancement of soccer has left an enduring mark on the Colorado Springs sports community.
The 2026 Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at The Broadmoor World Arena. The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction at 6:00 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 7:00 p.m. The event is presented by The Gazette.
