Air Force Academy honors legendary coach Fisher DeBerry with statue dedication

The Air Force Academy honored former Air Force head coach Fisher DeBerry with a statue dedication Sept. 11 at Falcon Stadium.
The statue is part of the newly established Fisher DeBerry Football Excellence Endowment, funded through the U.S. Air Force Academy Association & Foundation. The dedication took place outside the Kucera Legacy Center on the east side of Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs.
A reception followed in Heritage Plaza at the stadium where hundreds of former players, coaches and staff attended. The coach and his family will be honored during the first quarter at Saturday's game against North Dakota State at 8 p.m. in Falcon Stadium.
DeBerry is the winningest coach in Air Force history with a 169-109-1 record in 23 years leading the Falcons. A College Football Hall of Fame inductee, DeBerry led the Academy to its only three conference championships and 12 post-season bowl games. The coach led the Falcons to a 35-11 record in Commander-in-Chief's trophy games, collecting a record 14 CIC titles. Coach DeBerry coached 19 of the program's 35 All-Americans as well as 127 all-conference players. He was named National Coach of the Year in 1985, leading the Falcons to a 12-1 overall record and a victory over Texas in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
DeBerry and his wife, LuAnn, have been dedicated to their local community for decades and established the Fisher DeBerry Foundation in 2004 to provide life-altering support for young families.
