Szarka earned Mountain West player of the week honors for his performance at Nevada

Junior quarterback Liam Szarka was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Air Force's 36-33 win at Nevada Sept. 26. He rushed for a career-high 171 yards and two touchdowns on a career-best 33 carries. His carries and rushing yards are the most by an Air Force quarterback since Isaiah Sanders had 44 carries for 196 yards vs. Utah State in 2017. Szarka hit 5-12 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. His first touchdown run and his TD pass both came on fourth down. Szarka was at his best when it mattered most, recorded 11 first downs or touchdowns, including four of them on fourth down. He had five carries in six players in the first overtime and three carries in five plays in the second overtime. Szarka is the first Falcon to earn MW offensive player of the week honors since quarterback Zac Larrier on Oct. 2, 2023.
