LAS VEGAS -- Following a stellar conference-opening weekend, Air Force junior Grace Fiaseu was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week this morning (Sept. 28), as the conference office announced their weekly award winners.
Fiaseu hit .522 for the weekend (29-5-46) to help Air Force to a pair of victories over San Jose State – and just the fourth 2-0 start to conference play at the Division I level. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii, native recorded a career-high 18 kills (on .452 hitting) during the Falcons' 3-2 win over the Spartans on Sept. 26 – one match after posting a season-high hitting performance of .667 (11-1-15) in Air Force's sweep on Sept. 24.
Holding a 22-point advantage over the rest of the conference in hitting after one weekend of play, Fiaseu also added per-set marks of 1.25 blocks (10 total) and 4.50 points (36.0 total).
During the fourth set on Sept 26, she scored three points (two kills, solo block) to headline a 6-0 comeback run that broke a 16-all tie and helped Air Force secure a set-win that sent the match to a fifth set – a frame where she teamed up with Annamaria Ramos for back-to-back blocks that tied the score at 11 and gave the Falcons a 12-11 lead, enroute to Air Force's winning 15-13 final.
With today's honor, Fiaseu is the first Falcon in seven years to earn an Offensive Player of the Week award from the Mountain West (Bailey Keith, 2019). In addition, this marks the first time since 2022 – and just the sixth time overall – that Air Force has claimed multiple Player of the Week honors in the same season (Ella Vogel, Defensive POTW, Sept 14).
The Falcons are back in action this weekend, when they travel to California for their first matchup with UC Davis and Mountain West opponents. The two teams will meet at the University Credit Union Center on Thursday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 3.
