Blue Takes Down Silver in Blue/Silver Scrimmage

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis had its 2026 Blue/Silver Scrimmage Friday afternoon at the Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Blue team, featuring primarily the upperclassmen, defeated the Silver team, consisting of the freshmen, 5-2.

After dropping the doubles point, the Blue team went 5-1 in singles play to pull out the win.

In doubles, Silver went 2-0 to pick up the point. Sebastian Mazur and Daniel Tonkal defeated Alec Fritzinger and Caden Lee 6-1. Kai Stolaruk and Jaden Woller-Li defeated Matthew Staton and Gavin Maddan 6-4.

In singles, Tingleaf defeated Yi 6-3, 6-1 on court 1. Staton defeated Chow 6-1, 6-0 on court two. Fritzinger defeated Woller-Li 6-4, 6-3 on court 3. Leaird defeated Mazur 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) on court 4. Lee defeated Stolaruk 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7) on court 5. Tonkal defeated Maddan 6-4, 7-5 on court 6.

Junior Matthew Staton, who was elected team captain of the blue team, heaped praise upon his squad. "I'm really proud of Team Blue for bouncing back after losing the doubles point. We stayed competitive and set a good bar for our team for the rest of the fall season. I was really proud of the freshmen too for bringing the energy and competing in their first Blue Silver!"

"We enjoyed the friendly competition today," head coach Evan Urbina said. "It's always good to see the guys in a pressure situation. It was a great sendoff for Coach Castro, and I appreciate how much he's done for the program and wish him all the best as head coach at UTSA. I so appreciate the support from the AF Tennis Community and the parents, and am excited for this season!"
