Junior (2018):
- Appeared in 14 games, making six starts at designated hitter
- Collected five hits in 25 at bats while also driving in a run
- Drew five walks and hit by pitch twice for a .375 OBP
- As a defensive replacement in the OF and at 1B, had five putouts and an assist with no errors
- Had a three game hitting streak and six game reached base streak
- Career-best two hits against Hawaii, Feb. 16
- Earned Academic All-Mountain West honors
Sophomore (2017):
- Appeared in 11 games in the field and one game on the mound.
- Batted .400 with two hits in five at bats.
- Doubled and scored a run against Creighton.
- Had a pinch-hit RBI single against UCCS.
- Pitched against New Mexico.
- Was perfect in the field in 22 chances.
Summer (2016):
Played summer ball for Team Valdez of the Texas Showcase League (TSL) during his three weeks of allowed leave from cadet duties.
Freshman (2016):
- Played in two games at catcher and pitched in three games.
- Made debut with pinch-hit appearance against Nevada and also caught against Fresno State.
- Made pitching debut with scoreless outing vs. Iowa, striking out two.
- Pitched a scoreless inning against San Diego State.
HIGH SCHOOL (Keller): Lettered four years in baseball and one in football…baseball team captain as a senior…selected to Perfect Game’s Top Prospect list in 2015…first team all-district choice as a senior…high school coach was Rob Stramp…played summer baseball for Dallas Patriots, coached by Jerry Valdez…National Honors Society President at Keller…finished in the top five percent of his graduating class.
PERSONAL: Member of cadet squadron 23… mechanical engineering major ... will attend pilot training following graduation ... son of Wil and Evelyn Martinez…has two siblings…favorite food is Chipotle’s quesorito…favorite books include the Harry Potter series…favorite television show is How I Met Your Mother…favorite film is Miracle on Ice…famous person he would most enjoy meeting is Roberto Clemente…says his summer baseball coach has had the biggest influence in his baseball career…something many people don’t know about him is his love of country music…the most noteworthy thing about his hometown is the Puerto Rican food.
Why I came to the Academy: “I came to the Academy to pursue an education that cannot be compared with any other university and to join a family that is inseparable.”
