Parents and Competitive Gymnasts,
We are thrilled that you're interested in the Air Force Gymnastics Camp. The goal of our camp is to provide the gymnasts with a FUN yet challenging environment to further their gymnastics training. The multi-talented coaching staff uses a positive and enthusiastic approach to gymnastics training. We're really looking forward to having the gymnasts spend a week with us learning about the many different aspects of our wonderful sport. At the AF gymnastics Camp, we incorporate technical drills, specific skill instruction and appropriate progression towards each gymnast's goals as well as working on conditioning, flexibility and mental preparedness.
Our coaching staff truly believes that in order for a gymnast to become the best they can be; a different perspective from a coach at camp using different techniques most often gives a positive supplemental effect to their regular gym workouts. The coaches are not here to change the way a gymnast regularly trains, but rather add that special something that may have been missing. We often see a wide variety of abilities and skill levels, so we encourage all gymnasts to attend our gymnastics specific camp. Our staff will use all the events and additional equipment in a creative, safe and exciting manner to help the gymnasts realize their dreams! Some important points to consider:
Gymnastic workouts will be from 8:30-11:15am, and 1:00-4:00pm each day in the Gymnastics Gym inside the Cadet Gym. There will be a snack and relaxation break each afternoon, where the gymnasts have some down-time from the physical part of gymnastics. Often we will enjoy watching a collegiate gymnastics video or discussing mental preparedness while having a snack. Commuter gymnasts should bring snacks from home that are nutritious and the Boarder gymnasts will have the opportunity to get healthy snacks to bring to the gym during their meals at camp.
Campers always bring your gymnastics gear (grips, shoes, leotards, shorts, etc.) and appropriate outerwear (shorts, t-shirt, shoes) to have when leaving the gym. In the gym, the girl gymnasts may wear shorts or tights over their leotard. We ask that baggie clothing not be worn in the gym for safety reasons. You will need pants, a long sleeve shirt and full foot athletic shoes.
Our camp schedule also has open gym time where the gymnast can work on the events and skills that they choose.
