Parents and Young Cross Country and Distance Runners:
Thank you for considering AF Sports Camps and our Cross Country and Distance Camp-Session 2 at the beautiful U.S. Air Force Academy! This camp is a great opportunity to kick off your summer training program in a great distance training environment. We have miles and miles of trails and parks at which to run, and all are located at 7000 feet to add altitude to the training effect.
Our staff includes outstanding college and high school coaches as well as current collegiate athletes with whom you will run and train with. The combination of training at altitude and our wealth of experienced coaches will make your camp experience enjoyable and rewarding.
In addition to daily running, we will have instructional sessions on Nutrition, Injury prevention, Training techniques and ideas, motivation, race tactics and team building. We will also have open discussions with topics of interest presented by you, the cross country campers.
We look forward to this summer's camp and hope that you will decide to join us.
Elite Track and Field or Elite Cross Country - Commuter Only: (Session 3) - AF Elite Track and Field or AFXC Elite Cross Country Camp will provide campers with advanced techniques and key experiences to elevate their performances in the discipline of their choice. Training structures, calendar periodization, functional strengthening programs, supplemental training routines and overall approach to their development will be covered. This camp is limited to rising high school juniors and seniors only, Class of 2026 or 2027. Recommended for track and field or distance runners that are training at a high-level.
Track and Field or Cross Country (Distance Runner) Campers and Parents (Session 2):
Sprints, jumps, throws and hurdles will be offered to campers ages 13-18 (note: unfortunately, we are unable to offer Pole Vaulting). First class facilities await you at both our indoor and outdoor tracks. The environment should be perfect for you to enjoy our summer track and field camp.
Our staff includes outstanding college and high school coaches from around the country, as well as some terrific college athletes, several of whom have been NCAA All-Americans. All of our staff are excellent teachers for all ability levels, beginner to elite. However, due to our training intensity, campers must be at least 13 years of age in order to participate.
Our philosophy is to (1) teach each camper all we can about the skills, techniques and training required to be a successful track and field athlete; (2) develop in each camper an appreciation for the sports of track and field; and (3) offer each camper several opportunities for special sessions on motivation, goal-setting and self-esteem.
We expect every camper to attend each day well-rested and eager to learn. We encourage everyone to bring training shoes and event shoes (sprint spikes, jumping or throwing shoes) if applicable. You will also need to bring sunscreen, as we are outside most of the day at the AFA Outdoor Track. Since we are at 7000' elevation, not only is cardio respiratory efficiency affected, but exposure to elements (sun, wind, inclement weather) can be more severe than at sea level. Of course, our high altitude also gives an enhanced training effect!
Among our daily activities are well-designed training sessions (although we are not a training camp) to include drill instruction and extensive video analysis of techniques. There are informative classroom sessions on nutrition, motivation and a special session on "college recruiting" for high school juniors and seniors.
At the conclusion of the camp session, we hold an intracamp track meet--parents are invited to attend. The meet ends with "Closing Ceremonies" before our campers depart at 12:00 pm on Wednesday.
Our coaching staff always looks forward to camp and we are confident each camper will find the AF Track Camp to be a valuable and enjoyable experience!
