2020-21 (Junior): Competed in 16 bouts ... went 3-0 against Wayne State.
2019-20 (Sophomore): Competed in Falcon Open, placing 31st in senior men's epee.
2018-19 (Freshman): Competed at Falcon Open, placing 27th in junior men's epee and 32nd in senior men's epee.
Before the Academy: Competed for Olympian Fencing Club, coached by Velizar Iliev ... also lettered three years in track and one in cross country ... first-team all-academic in track and field and cross country ... part of school record-setting 1600 meter relay team in 2017 ... 2018 class salutatorian ... ranked fifth in the state of Texas for Community Emergency Response Team HOSA medical knowledge and skills.
Personal: Member of cadet squadron 20 ... son of David and Melanie Mayfield ... has an older sister, who is a Neuroscience major at UT Dallas ... biology pre-med major and Spanish minor ... active in his squadron as the training clerk ... during the summer prior to sophomore season: completed Expeditionary Survival Training (EST) and soaring ... Why I decided to come to the Academy: “I have always wanted to come to the Academy ever since my great uncle Tex took me up in his Cessna 180 and flew me around the city. My first time seeing the F-22 Raptor fly over at an air show at Randolph AFB got me hooked on the USAF. I came to USAFA to get the best education and training possible to open the door to a flying and or medical career, and above all, to serve the best country on earth. I wanted to come to a school that pushed my academics, physical ability, and leadership, and there is no better place to do that than USAFA.” ... began fencing at age 18 as a senior in high school ... credits 1970 USAFA graduate and three-time Olympian Bob Nieman as having the biggest influence on his sports career ... pre-competition superstition is to drink red Gatorade ... dream vacation spot is Hawaii ... guilty pleasure is eating tacos ... favorite role models are his parents and sister ... something most people don’t know about him is that he has a private pilot’s license ... enjoys listening to country, pop/rap and smooth jazz ... favorite TV show is Psych ... favorite movie is Guardians of the Galaxy ... favorite class subject is Spanish ... favorite athlete Manu Ginobili and favorite team is the San Antonio Spurs ... dream sport would be to do the modern pentathlon.
