Maj. Andre Morris is in his second season as coach of the spurs and is in his third overall at the Academy. He was a defensive assistant in 2019. He came to the Academy after coaching linebackers at the Air Force Academy Prep School.
Morris helped develop a young corps of spurs last season that helped the Air Force defense become one of the best in progam history. The 2020 defense was among the top units in program history, finishing third nationally in scoring defense with a 15.0 average. The 15.0 mark is the best at the Academy since 1997. The team also ranked fifth nationally in passing yards allowed (166.8) and fourth in redzone defense (.692).
The Air Force defense has been outstanding the last two years. The defense was third in the conference and 20th nationally in scoring defense with a 19.8 norm in 2019. The unit allowed just 100.5 yards per game which is the best single season mark in program history, breaking the mark of 109.0 set in 1985. The defense allowed just 319.6 yards per game which is the best single season mark in the program since 2009.
Morris mentored a group of outside linebackers that led the team in sacks and included Jake Ksiazek, who was named Mountain West defensive player of the week in the team’s win over Colorado State. In addition, Grant Donaldson was named the outstanding defensive player in the 2019 Cheez-It Bowl victory over Washington State.
Morris is a 2011 Academy graduate and four-year lettermen. He helped the Falcons to four straight bowl games, two bowl victories and the first Commander-in-Chief’s Tophy title in seven years as a senior in 2010. The Falcons won back-to-back bowl games, beating Houston, 47-20, in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2009 and Georgia Tech, 14-7, in the 2019 Independence Bowl. Morris was a Phil Steele Magazine all-conference selection in 2009.
Morris earned his degree in social sciences and began his Air Force career as a graduate assistant coach and instructor at the Prep School in 2011. He later served as an acquisitions officer at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., Los Angeles Air Base, Calif., and in the Netherlands.
Morris is a native of Atlanta, Ga.
