Major Anthony Wright is in his fourth season as a defensive assistant at the Air Force Academy. Wright helped the Air Force defense to a No. 1 national ranking in total defense (254.5), second in passing defense (159.1), third in scoring defense (13.4) and sixth in rushing defense (95.3) in 2022. The 13.4 points per game average is the sixth best in program history and best since 1997. The group was nearly as dominant in 2023, ranking sixth in total defense (277.7), sixth in rushing defense (90.8) and 12th in scoring defense (18.2). Air Force led the Mountain West in total defense for the fifth straight season in 2024.
Wright came to his alma mater after serving at Camp Smith in Hawaii as a liaison officer to U.S INDOPACOM Deployment and Distribution Operations Center from 2021-July 2022.
Wright was stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as the Chief of Logistics Operations and Plans from 2019-21 and before that was at Daegu Air Force Base, Korea from 2018-19 as the Logistics Readiness Flight Commander.
Wright was stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, from 2015-18, where he served in a variety of roles, including the Passenger Services Flight Commander and Air Terminal Operations Center Flight Commander. While there, he also served a deployment in support of a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force.
He began his Air Force career in logistics at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., from 2012-15, serving in a variety of roles. Wright was the Officer in Charge of Vehicle Operations, Maintenance Support, Deployment and Distribution, Operations & Compliance. He also served a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while stationed at Nellis.
Wright was decorated as the 7th Air Force Staff Company Grade Officer of the Year in 2018 and earned the Defense Meritorious Service medal and the Joint Service Commendation medal. He has been selected to promotion to Major in August of 2022.
Wright is a 2012 graduate of the Academy, where he earned a degree in social sciences. He was a four-year football letterman and helped the Falcons to four bowl games. He was a two-time all-Mountain West selection and ended his career with 12 interceptions which ranks fifth in program history. He recorded seven interceptions in 2009 which is the third-most in Air Force history. His 210 career interception return yards ranks second in Air Force history. Wright played in all 52 games of his career and started a school record 49 consecutive.
Wright and his wife, Ana, have two children, Lwini (13) and Kayin (2)
