Major Sarah Edwards enters her first year as the assistant diving coach for both men’s and women’s diving teams at the Air Force Academy. In addition to coaching duties, Edwards teaches swimming and water survival in the physical education department.
Edwards received her commission through the United States Air Force Academy in May 2003, earning a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering. Her first assignment was Eglin Air Force Base where she worked as an aircraft analyst for AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile) testing. Edwards’ second assignment brought her back to Colorado Springs where she served a four-year tour in the 4th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base, culminating as Section Chief of Future Operations. During this tour, she earned a master’s in business administration. Edwards separated from active duty in 2009 and entered the Air Force Reserves as an Admissions Liaison Officer to the Air Force Academy. She has since become a project officer in Air Force TENCAP (Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities), while continuing to serve as a liaison officer and now in the USAFA athletic department.
Edwards began her college diving career at Texas A & M but finished her last three years of eligibility at the Air Force Academy. As a USAFA diver, she won four Mountain West Conference titles, was a two-year team captain, and earned the Mountain West Conference Senior Leadership award in 2002. She earned the Most Valuable Swimmer/Diver for the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons, as well as the Academyu’s Most Valuable Female Athlete for 2001-2002. Edwards concluded her cadet career as the student assistant coach for the diving team.
Formerly Sarah Law, she married Adam Edwards, a Falcon football player and 1996 graduate of the Academy. The couple has two children, ages six and eight.
