Polina Shchennikova enters her first season as Air Force women’s gymnastics volunteer assistant coach alongside head coach Jennifer Green in the 2020-2021 season. Shchennikova joins the Academy by way of the University of Michigan where she spent the last two seasons as the Student Athlete Assistant Coach.
While coaching at Michigan, Shchennikova helped lead the Wolverines to the 2019 Big Ten Championship title and a pair of Big Ten regular season titles in 2019 and 2020. Prior to her coaching stint, Shchennikova competed for the Wolverines for two seasons where she was a member of back-to-back Big Ten Championship teams in 2017 and 2018 before declaring a medical retirement.
An elite athlete for most of her gymnastics career, Shchennikova placed second at the 2012 Nastia Liukin Cup, and became a two-time National Team member before heading to Ann Arbor to compete at the Division I level. She has choreographed for elite, club, and collegiate athletes and plans to continue developing athletes at the Air Force Academy and beyond.
Shchennikova graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Sport Management in May of 2020. She plans to pursue a master's degree in Sport Psychology.
