On June 20, 2024, Air Force women's soccer announced the addition of Lt Col Marci J. Walton to the 2024 staff, as the 2004 Academy graduate will serve as the Falcons volunteer assistant coach during the upcoming fall.
The former Falcon will operate in an administrative role for the program.
Walton comes to the Academy following time spent as the Commander of the 14th Student Squadron and T-6A Instructor Pilot at Columbus Air Force Base. There, she led AETC's largest squadron with roughly 650 students from 18 different militaries around the world.
As a command pilot, Walton has logged more than 2,300 flight hours including nearly 400 combat hours in the Middle East and Africa. Walton has also been tasked as an instructor pilot since 2010, flying such planes as the C-130J, KC-135, and T-6. She has also been in the cockpit in C-130E's and TC-12's.
With over 20 years of service, Walton has received such commendations as the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal.
Marci Walton, formerly Marci Freund, played all soccer all four years as a Falcon. In 76 career matches, Walton scored seven goals and one assist, equating to 15 career points. As well, Walton was a player for the Armed Forces women's soccer team in 2006, while having served on the coaching staff in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
Walton graduated from the Academy in 2004, majoring in Meteorology with a minor in Spanish. She is married to Lt Col Daniel Walton and has two sons, Brecken and Kai. Walton is originally from Colorado Springs, having attended Cheyenne Mountain High School.
