Mark Peters came to the Air Force Academy in 2009 and currently works with the football program. He has worked with multiple teams during his tenure
at USAFA including work with baseball, track and field, cross country, men's soccer, men's gymnastics, fencing, and the spirit squads. In addition, he
directs athletic training student internship opportunities within the sports medicine department.
Before coming to USAFA, Peters spent 10 years at the University of Northern Colorado. He began as exercise science faculty, responsible for
teaching multiple courses in the athletic training and exercise science curriculum. In 2003, he assumed the head football athletic trainer position
while maintaining his teaching responsibilities. Peters helped the UNC athletics department transition to the NCAA Division I level and was hired
as the co-head athletic trainer for the department of athletics in 2006. He spent considerable time planning, designing, and implementing the UNC Human
Performance Lab for the Sport and Exercise Science department that is primarily used for education, research, and community outreach.
Peters earned his associate of arts degree from Waldorf College, his bachelors' degree in athletic training and corporate wellness from Winona
State University, and his masters' degree in exercise physiology and biomechanics from the University of Northern Colorado. He is a certified
athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Trainers Association, the Colorado Athletic Trainers Association, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is a regular
participant in in the NCAA/DOD Grand Alliance Concussion Research Study at USAFA. He spent 5 years as the chair of governmental affairs for athletic
trainers in the state of Colorado. In 2018, he received the award of Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer from the Colorado Athletic Trainers
Association and the William T. Griffin Award for Outstanding Leadership from the National Athletic Trainers Association.
Peters, and his wife Elly, are both originally from Litchfield, Minn. They have two sons, Tyler and Ajay.
