"This non-team scoring meet produced some good highlights for us," said head coach Ralph Lindeman. "We didn't do well in some areas which we will have to work on this week as we prepared for the championships. But, overall I was pleased with my teams' performances."
There were several Falcon highlights Saturday, February 17, 2001. In the shot put, Shawn Johnson set a school record with a throw of 58-6.75. Johnson placed third in the event behind Olympic Champion John Godina (67-3.25) and UCLA's Scott Moser (62-0.50).
In the pole vault, Ben Gensic posted the best mark in the league to date and set a personal best with a vault of 16-6.75. This is the second consecutive week that Gensic has improved his vault. Last week, at Penn State, he vaulted 16-2.25 to better his personal best by two inches.
Freshman Anthony Park was the lone event winner. Park took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 48-3.25. Paul Mayo, who played football this past fall, had personal bests in both the 60-meter dash (6.95) and the 200-meters (2l.09).
In the women's competition, Ana Marie Ortega matched her school record in the
pole vault at 11-11.75. Domonique Torbert set two personal bests. In the long
jump, she jumped 18-3 and in the 200-meters she posted a time of 25.82. Both
marks rank her second on the school's all-time list.
