Air Force Falls To Utah, 3-1

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- Utah, ranked 25th in the nation, scored three goals in the second half to defeat Air Force, 3-1, in a Mountain West Conference game Saturday morning at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.
Bobbie Benegas converted a penalty kick for the Utes in the 56th minute to take the lead after a scoreless first half. Senior Shauna Gurr-Bingham scored the second Utah goal after an assist from junior Missy Dennis. The Utes scored again in the 89th minute with an unassisted goal from senior Katie Tate. The only Air Force goal of the game came within the last 10 seconds from sophomore Jennifer Rowland, who scored from 20 yards out with an assist from junior Leigh-Anne Withers.
Referee Simon Ingham issued two yellow cards. The first went to Bingham in the 33rd minute. Air Force sophomore Julie Honeycutt received the second in the 42nd minute.
The Utes outshot the Falcons, 15-4, during the first half and 16-5 in the second. In goal, Courtney Hills-McBeth had four saves for Utah and Falcon J.J. Wolf had 11.
Air Force is now 5-9 this season and 0-2 in conference play. The Falcons travel to UNLV Friday, Oct. 18, for the first of two Mountain West Conference games that weekend. Air Force then travels to San Diego State Sunday, Oct. 20.
