The Air Force men's tennis team wrapped up the Balloon Fiesta Invitational Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshman Shannon Buck posted the best result for the Falcons, advancing to the semifinals of the main singles draw.
Buck, seeded seventh at the tournament, won three matches before dropping a close three-setter to third-seed Justin Hunter of Colorado, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Hunter lost in the finals to top-seeded Bart Scott of New Mexico, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Tyler McClung won a couple of tough matches before falling to Scott in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Eric Pittman, the fourth seed, and junior Justin Mancinelli each advanced to the round of 16 before losing to Nejc Smole of Denver and Hunter, respectively. Sophomore Chris Dong won a couple of matches in the back draw before falling to John Nallon of Texas A&M in three sets.
In doubles action, Buck and Mancinelli won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals before falling to David Kowalski and Nick Ames of UNM, 8-4. Pittman and McClung won two matches in the consolation bracket after losing their first round match.
The Falcons conclude their 2002 fall schedule with the Omni Hotel Regional Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., Oct. 23-27.
