The Air Force men's soccer team dropped its third game in a row Sunday, falling to UNLV 6-0 in Las Vegas. The Falcons are now 7-8-1 overall and 1-3 against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents.
UNLV (10-5, 3-0 MPSF) scored early and often, as the Rebels had a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the contest. Leandro Iocco scored the first of his two goals just 2:39 into the game, then Boomer Arbelaez scored at the 4:24 mark. Rod Dyachenko notched a goal in the 27th minute to give UNLV a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Air Force actually out-shot the Rebels, 8-5, in the first half, but only two of its eight shots were on goal. Conversely, three of four of UNLV's shots were on goal, and three went in the net behind Falcon goalie Mike Taylor.
The second half was the same story, as UNLV put three more goals in against backup goaltender Mike Maynard. Kelly Frederick scored at the 63:56 mark, followed by Iocco's second tally just 2:07 later. Mark Stock closed out the scoring with just 41 seconds remaining in the game.
Taylor made two saves for Air Force, while Maynard made just one. Justin Dennis made four saves for UNLV in 70 minutes of play. Rebel backup Peter Clitheroe played the final 20 minutes.
UNLV finished the game with 16 total shots and nine on goal, while the Falcons mustered just 12 total and four on net.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 against San Diego State at 3 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
