Falcons Fall to Utah, 3-0

The Air Force volleyball team was unable to get back-to-back conference victories, falling to No. 20 Utah 3-0 (10-30, 26-30, 25-30). The Falcons were coming off their first-ever victory over BYU, but will have to wait for the win against Utah.
"Our players fought hard against a great opponent," head coach Penny Lucas-White said. "We got off to a rocky start, but we were pretty equal with them in games two and three. I am proud of our team."
The Falcons fell behind early in the match and never recovered. They had just five kills in game one, hitting a negative .048 percent and falling 30-10. Utah hit an amazing .739 percent in game one, with 17 kills on 23 attacks and no errors. It was the largest margin of defeat in a game this season.
Air Force gained some momentum in the second game. After falling behind 11-17, the came back to win nine of the next 11 points to take a 21-19 lead. They weren't able to maintain their momentum, losing the hard-fought game 26-30. They played well in game three as well, losing by a narrow five-point margin, 30-25.
The Falcons finished the match with a .170 hitting percentage (53k-141a-29e). They tallied 53 digs and had 12 team blocks. Delavane Diaz had a team-high 11 kills, eight of which came in game two. Lamecca Jefferson added six kills and Tiffany Bishop had five. Jefferson had a team-high eight digs, as no player finished in double figures. Kristin Huitt had 26 assists - her lowest assist total on the season.
The loss drops the Falcons to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference. In a rare Wednesday match, they will host Wyoming on Oct. 9th in their conference home opener. They host Colorado State on Friday, Oct. 11th. Start time is 7 p.m. for both matches.
