Five members of the Air Force Academy men's soccer team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference teams Saturday, led by senior forward Thomas Clark and sophomore midfielder Marcus Sagastume, who were first-team selections by league coaches.
Clark, who is a repeat first-team selection, had 13 points this season with four goals and five assists. He had two game-winning goals this season and finished his career with 35 total points at Air Force.
Sagastume, meanwhile, led the team in scoring for the second consecutive year, scoring six goals and adding seven assists for 19 points. He finished the regular season tied for fourth in the MPSF averaging 1.12 points per game.
Two Falcons, senior Noah Merica-Jones and freshman Daniel Wasson, were selected to the All-MPSF second team. Merica-Jones, who missed 10 games this season after suffering a concussion, was a solid midfielder/defender for four seasons at Air Force. One of the tri-captains for this year's team, he collected three goals and three assists for nine points in his career.
Wasson produced an excellent freshman campaign in 2002, notching six goals and five assists for 17 points, the second-best total on the team. He had two game-winning goals this season and scored the team's only goal, a penalty kick, in the Falcons' shootout loss to UNLV in the MPSF quarterfinals. For his efforts, Wasson was named to the MPSF all-tournament team.
Freshman Colin Eames, who finished fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and four assists for 10 points, was an honorable mention selection. He posted the game-winning goal against UMKC earlier this season.
Air Force finished the 2002 season with an 8-9-2 record.
