Air Force Defeats Winthrop, 77-71

Freshman Briana Thomas notched her first career double-double as the Air Force women's basketball team notched a 77-71 victory over Winthrop. Thomas scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds as the Falcons won the opening game of the Air Force Classic tournament. They will face Minnesota on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 5 p.m. in the championship game.
Including Thomas, four Falcons finished in double figures in scoring. LaToya Howell notched a season-high 18 points, while Shawna Neff added 18 and Emily Gross notched 10. Howell also had 10 assists for a double-double. It was the first time since joining the Mountain West three years ago that two players notched double-doubles in the same game.
Kia Bell had a game-high 30 points to lead the Eagles. Laura Herman added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Falcons improve to 2-1 overall. They will face Minnesota, who defeated New Orleans 85-75 in the other first-round match up. Winthrop falls to 1-1 overall.
