ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Mike Helms scored 23 points and Rawle Marshall added 15 points and 11 rebounds as Oakland University defeated the Air Force Academy 61-44 on Sunday.
Helms, one of the nation's leaders in scoring, has at least 20 points in every game Oakland (4-3) has played this season. The Golden Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak against Division I opponents.
A.J. Kuhle and David Peterson led the Falcons (5-3) with 11 points each, but couldn't keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Oakland led 34-23 with 17 minutes to play, but the Falcons went on a 12-2 run to pull within one point. All 12 points came on 3-pointers, including two by Tim Keller.
The Golden Grizzlies, though, responded with a 14-4 surge to put the game away. Marshall, who only had two points in the game's first 29 minutes, had eight in the run.
Oakland took 32 free throws to just seven for Air Force, including the first 20 of the game.
