Air Force falls to Virginia Tech, 6-1

The Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Air Force Academy 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. The loss dropped Air Force to 11-5 this season.
Tech won two of the three doubles matches as Air Force lost the doubles point for just the second time in 16 matches this season. The Falcons' No. 2 doubles team of Gina Black and Heather Shelby lost their first dual match of the season, 8-5, while Ashley Gee and Kelli O'Bryant fell 8-2 at No. 3. Brooke Parsons and Laura Nigro beat Ines Khelifi and Meredith Vincent 8-3 at the No. 1 slot.
The Hokies won five of the six singles matches to claim the victory. Parsons claimed the lone singles victory for Air Force, edging Kristen Stubbs at the No. 1 position 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
Virginia Tech won the Nos. 2-5 matches in straight sets, and Black fell to Bridget Bruner, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
Air Force stays on the east coast and continues its spring break trip later this week. The Falcons battle Old Dominion on Friday, Mar. 29 and Richmond on Saturday, Mar. 30.
