Falcons win Georgia State Tournament

Air Force scored three second-half and cruised to a 4-1 win over Tennessee Tech in the championship game of the Marriott/Georgia State Invitational Sunday, Sept. 15, in Atlanta, Ga. AFA won the tournament with a 2-0 record.
The Falcon offense exploded with 14 shots and four goals. The four goals were just one less than the Falcons scored in their first five games combined.
Sophomore Jennifer Rowland opened the scoring in the 31st minute from senior Mary Cholko. Rowland is tied for team lead with two goals and four points. In a span of nine minutes in the second half, the Falcons scored three goals and took complete control of the game.
Midfielder Cookie Day gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead at 75:48 with an unassisted goal off of a free kick. The goal was the second of the tournament for Day. Sophomore Elaine Tatarek scored at 80:51 for a 3-0 lead. Marci Freund sent a perfect cross into the corner and Tatarek scored her first goal of the season. In the 84th minute, Julie Honeycutt scored her first goal of the season and her third point of the tournament. Honeycutt took a crossing pass from Tatarek and scored for a 4-0 Falcon advantage.
Tennessee Tech's only goal came from Robyn Vince off a free kick in the 86th minute.
Air Force (3-3 overall this season) out-shot TTU 14-6 and held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Falcons handed Tech its first loss of the season (5-1-1).
After four straight road games, the Falcons return home to play six of the next eight at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. AFA hosts Utah State Friday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. and Central Florida Sunday, Sept. 22, at noon.
