ST. LOUIS-Army blanked the Air Force Academy 2-0 in the third game of the Toys for Tots Military Academies Women's Soccer Classic at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Black Knight midfielder Kelly Schachtler scored twice to back Morgan Bennett's shutout goalkeeping.
Army controlled play in the first half with a 9-5 edge in shots. The Cadets struck early on Schachtler's six-yard header at 12:59. After an Air Force foul, Cadets midfielder Emily Nay found Schachtler in the Air Force penalty area off the ensuing restart. Army had a quality chance to expand the lead in the 31st minute when shots from Nay and Delaney Brown had Falcons keeper J.J. Wolf beaten, but her defense cleared both shots away.
Schachtler salted the game away in the 67th minute on a 25-yard curving blast to the upper right corner that eluded the Falcons' leaping Wolf. Midfielder Emily Biddick picked up an assist on the play.
Army (2-1-1) out-shot the Air Force (1-3-0) 15-7 and had a 2-0 edge in corners. Bennett made two saves to record the shutout, while Wolf made four saves and her defense cleared away three shots.
