Falcons defeat Utah State, 6-1

Air Force won five of six singles matches and swept all three doubles contests Friday to defeat Utah State, 6-1, in the 2003 spring opener in Logan, Utah. Air Force is now 5-0 against the Aggies in the last 13 years.
In singles action, freshman Shannon Buck defeated Jonah Nelson, 6-1, 6-2. At number two singles, senior Eric Pittman took care of Utah State's Jason Trask, 6-2, 6-3. At the three spot, sophomore Tyler McClung beat Jordan Butler, 6-2, 7-6. At number four singles, USU's Brandon Butler took freshman Martin Black to three sets before falling, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. At the fifth spot, senior Tyler West handled Andrew Marsh in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Utah State's Ryan Bair posted the Aggies' lone win, defeating junior Patrick Jackson, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
In doubles action the Falcons won three straight. At number one doubles, Pittman and McClung beat Nelson and Butler, 8-2. At the two spot, Buck and junior Justin Mancinelli defeated Trask and Butler, 9-7, while Black teamed with sophomore Chris Dong to beat Bair and Jensen at number three doubles, 8-6.
The Falcons' next match will is Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at Idaho State.
