Utah blanks Air Force, 4-0

The University of Utah scored four goals in the first half and rolled to a 4-0 win over Air Force in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer match, Thursday night, Oct. 9, in Salt Lake City. The game was the MWC opener for both teams.
Air Force fell to 5-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the league. Utah improved to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the MWC.
The game was scoreless for the first 25 minutes until Amber Brower scored from Missy Dennis and Heather Wilhelm-Carter on a shot from five yards out to the far lower corner. Utah's Lauren Field scored the next two goals. Her first came in the 30th minute from Brower and Amanda Feight into the upper right corner. Her second came in the 42nd minute from Mckenzie Joyner and also went to the upper right corner.
With less than three minutes left in the half, Julie Herdic scored from Field to give the Utes a 4-0 lead. All four goals were scored from 10 yards or closer.
In total shot attempts, the Utes outshot the Falcons 15-4 overall and 11-1 in the first half. Utah also had an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Ute goalkeeper Kaycie Zimmerman stopped both Falcon shots on goal for the shutout. AFA senior J.J. Wolf made three saves and allowed four goals in the first half. Senior Jennifer Monson played the second half, her first action of the season. She made four stops without allowing a goal.
Air Force concludes the road trip against BYU Saturday, Oct. 11, in Provo, Utah.
