The Air Force volleyball team continued to play well, sweeping New Mexico in three games (30-16, 30-28, 30-26) to win their third conference match. The Falcons used double-digit kills from two players to seal the win and improve to 13-9 overall and 3-5 in the league.
"I am very proud of our team," head coach Penny Lucas-White said. "We dominated the first game and although we let down a bit in the second game, we played strong enough to win. Any road win in conference play is a great achievement."
The Falcons finished the first game with a .424 hitting percentage, defeating the Lobos by 14 points. Game two came down to the wire, with the Falcons holding a slight advantage throughout. They notched the game-winning point on a New Mexico service error. Air Force won the final game by just four points, but the outcome was never really in question.
Serving was one of the keys to the team's win, as the Lobos committed 13 service errors in the match, while the Falcons notched 10 service aces. Delavane Diaz led all hitters with 17 kills. She added 11 digs for the double-double, her ninth of the season. Lamecca Jefferson also finished in double figures in kills, notching 13 for the match. Kristin Huitt had 41 assists, while Jenalee Burke and Kristin Hamlett added eight digs each.
The Falcons will be on the road again next week when they head to Utah to take on Utah and BYU in two league matches.
