U.S.A.F.A., Colo. -- A goal by Shawn Destafney in the 87th minute propelled Montana to a 1-0 win over Air Force in women's soccer action this Sunday, October 5, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons lost at home for the first time in five matches this year and fall to 5-5-1 on the season.
The Grizzlies improved to 4-6-2.
The game was a defensive battle as the two teams combined for just seven shots on goal. However, the Grizzlies held a clear advantage in corner kick opportunities (10-2) and were able to capitalize on their final corner kick attempt.
With 87:16 left in the match, Destafney took a corner kick from Jamie Rizzuto and headed the ball past Falcon goalkeeper J.J. Wolf for the golden-goal.
Wolf finished the match with two saves while Montana goalkeeper Sarah Braseth recorded four saves and notched her third shutout.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, October 9, opening Mountain West Conference play with a 3 p.m. match at Utah.
