The Air Force women's basketball team will have to wait at least four more days for their first win of the season. The Falcons surrendered a 15-0 run late in the game and never recovered, as the team fell to Illinois-Chicago 77-66. It was the sixth consecutive loss for the Falcons, who are 0-6 on the season.
The game went back-and-forth the entire first half and much of the second half. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Falcons took their largest lead of the game (47-44) on a jumper by Jacki Novak. The Flames would respond with back-to-back three-pointers -- the start of a 15-0 run. Although the Falcons cut the lead down to six late, the deficit was too large to overcome.
Chrissy Dizon led all scorers with 19 points and was one of four Illinois-Chicago players in double figures. Andrea Milner added 13 points while Krystal Hugelier had 11. Dejeanette Flourney notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Letricia Castillo, getting the first start of her career, continued to lead the team offensively. She scored a career-high 17 points, and has led (or tied for the lead) the team in scoring in five of the team's six games. Jennifer Roesch scored nine points, while Amoy Jackson added eight. Dawn Higginbotham and Briana Thomas each had six rebounds to pace the Falcons on the boards.
Air Force shot 39.1 percent (25-64) from the field and were 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from beyond the arc. They continued to have trouble holding onto the ball. They tallied 27 turnovers in the game.
Air Force will look to snap its losing streak on Wednesday (Dec. 10) when the team hosts New Mexico Highlands. Tip off is 7 p.m. at Clune Arena.
