The previously undefeated Air Force wrestling team suffered losses to Nebraska and Hofstra. The Falcons fell 35-10 to the Cornhuskers and 30-15 to Hofstra in two dual meets over the weekend. The team falls to 5-2 overall.
The Falcons opened the weekend with a tough loss to Nebraska. The Falcons won only two of 10 individual matches. Luke Lefever (184 pounds) had a tremendous victory, notching a victory over the No. 15th-ranked wrestler in the nation. Lefever pinnned B.J. Padden at 5:58 of his match over B.J. Padden to notch six team points.
"It was a great win for Lefever," assistant coach Doug Wells said. "He is coming on strong and has a strong chance of qualifying for nationals."
Heavyweight Kevin Hoy, ranked second in the nation, continued to dominate his competition. He scored a 14-2 major decision over Nebraska's Mitch Manstedt.
The Falcons didn't fare much better against Hofstra. Heath McKim, who lost a disappointing dual against Nebraska's fifth-ranked Jason Powell by a narrow 1-0 score, earned a victory by forfeit. The team's only two other victories were Chris Bennett (141 pounds), who won 4-3, and No. 2 Kevin Hoy, who pinned his opponent at the 4:41 mark.
Air Force returns home for its final dual meet of the season. The dual meet, set for Wednesday, Feb. 26th at 7 p.m., pits the Falcons against conference opponent and rival Wyoming.
