The Air Force women's tennis team lost a tough battle to Boise State Saturday afternoon, 5-2, at the Cadet Gymnasium Indoor Courts. The Falcons fall to 4-6 on the season.
Boise State took an early 1-0 lead by winning at No. 2 and 3 doubles. AFA's Laura Nigro and Gina Black took the No. 1 match over BSU's Erin Polowski and Jemma Haywood, 8-3. AFA's Heather Shelby and Kat Bushey lost to Alissa Aylins and Renata Stoop, 9-7, at No. 2, while Anna Curtalo and Gardina Ponsratz defeated Air Force's Jen Nigro and Kelli O'Bryant, 8-3, at No. 3.
Laura Nigro upset Stoop, ranked 79th in the country at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 for her second victory this season over a nationally-ranked opponent. Haywood beat Shelby 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 position, and Polowski defeated Bushey at No. 3, 7-6, 6-4. Aylins cruised past O'Bryant, 6-0, 6-0 and Black won her second consecutive three-setter, defeating Curtalo, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, at the No. 5 spot. Ponsratz beat AFA's Katie Tomkie 8-2 at No. 6 singles.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, March 7 as they host Montana beginning at 3 p.m.
