Falcons Drop 6-1 Decision to New Mexico

The Air Force women's tennis team dropped its third consecutive Mountain West Conference match Thursday with a 6-1 loss to #49 New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Falcons fall to 10-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.
The Lobos (9-8, 1-2 MWC) took an early 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sandy Lukowski and Maja Kovacek won the No. 1 match over AFA's Laura Nigro and Gina Black, 8-3, while UNM's No. 3 team of Tiffany Robertson and Michelle Heidbrink beat Kelli O'Bryant and Jeniffer Nigro, 8-2. Air Force's No. 2 duo of Heather Shelby and Kat Bushey defeated Maria Ruiz-Fabrega and Rachel Hatley, 8-4.
Laura Nigro evened the match at 1-all with a thrilling three-set victory over Lukowski, ranked 82nd nationally, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 at the No. 1 singles spot. UNM won the No. 2 and 3 match in three-sets, with Kovacek beating Shelby, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 and Tjasa Suvak winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over Bushey at No. 3. New Mexico won the other three singles matches in straight sets.
The Falcons continue play against MWC opponents with a match against BYU on Friday, March 28 at 10 a.m. in Albuquerque.
