Air Force downs Texas-Pan American and Idaho State

The Air Force men's tennis team won two matches at home Friday, improving to 13-1 this season. The Falcons beat UT-Pan American, 5-2, and Idaho State, 7-0. The team's start is the best since going 14-0 to begin the 1994 season.
Air Force began the day by winning the doubles point against UTPA, including a pair of 9-8 matches. The Falcons' No. 2 duo of Shannon Buck and Justin Mancinelli and the No. 3 team of Tyler West and Martin Black each won their match in a tie-break. Eric Pittman and Tyler McClung won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-5.
Air Force swept the first four singles matches to clinch the team match. Pittman won the match of the day, defeating Filip Koziell, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 2 singles. Buck, McClung and Mancinelli won easily at No. 1, 3 and 4, respectively. UTPA's Oliver Steil defeated Black, 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 at No. 5, while the Broncs' Nik Porter beat AFA's Patrick Jackson, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Falcons kept it going against Idaho State, winning two of three doubles matches and all six singles contests. Pittman and McClung improved to 13-0 this season with an 8-6 victory over Mal Swan and Adam Krupp. West and Black took the No. 3 match, 8-5.
In singles action, Buck is now 13-0 at the No. 1 slot with a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Swan. Pittman defeated Hestian Stoica, 6-3, 6-4, while McClung (No. 3) and Mancinelli (No. 4) also won in straight sets.
The Falcons complete their seven-match homestand against Boston University on Monday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
