Air Force downs Utah, 5-2

Despite falling behind 1-0 after the three doubles matches, the Air Force men's tennis team won its second Mountain West Conference match of the season, defeating Utah, 5-2, Saturday at the Academy. Air Force is now 18-4 overall and 2-2 in the MWC this season.
Utah took the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Air Force's No. 1 team of Eric Pittman and Tyler McClung improved their record to 23-3 overall and 19-1 in dual matches as they defeated Utah's top team of Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts, 8-5.
Air Force stormed back to five of the six singles matches. Freshman Shannon Buck improved to 20-1 at No. 1 singles, including 4-0 against MWC opponents, with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory over Daniel Lohff, while Pittman beat Brateanu, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. Tyler McClung suffered the only Falcon loss at No. 3 singles, losing to Tyler Poulson, 6-4, 6-2. Chris Dong downed Tomasz Grzyb in an exciting three-setter, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Trevor Johnson won the No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-4, over Coutts, while Martin Black won in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Mike Bullard at No. 6.
Air Force plays its final MWC match of the season as it hosts New Mexico on Sunday, April 13, beginning at 10 a.m.
