Air Force senior Josh Zumbrun earned Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance against San Diego State, April 26.
The honor was the first of Zumbrun's career. He is the first Air Force pitcher to earn the distinction this season.
In leading Air Force to its first conference win of the season, the right-hander from Baltimore, Md., threw his first career complete game in just his second career start. After spending the first three years of his career on junior varsity, Zumbrun had thrown just 33 innings this season, mostly in middle relief. He went the distance against the Aztecs, throwing 119 pitches and faced just 34 batters. Zumbrun gave up just seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
His shutout was the first home conference shutout by Air Force since 1989 (2-0 vs. Utah).
Air Force, 13-28 overall and 1-19 in the MWC, travels to Greeley to face Northern Colorado on Tuesday, April 29, at 2 p.m. The Falcons return to MWC action against New Mexico, Friday-Sunday, May 2-4, at Falcon Field.
