Josh Phifer Named to Verizon Academic All-American Team

Air Force Academy senior Josh Phifer was named to the Verizon Academic All-American Baseball Team (University Division) for his accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. Phifer was named to the first-team and is a two-time Academic All-American (second-team in 2002).
An outfielder from Torrington, Wyo., Phifer has a 3.87 GPA with a major in operations research. This season, he leads the Mountain West Conference in batting average (.413), slugging percentage (.804) and on-base percentage (.502). He could become the first player in the four-year history of the league to lead all three categories in the same season. He also leads the team in hits (76), doubles (21), home runs (15), RBI (62), total bases (148) and hit by pitch (16).
