Three different Buffs scored as the University of Colorado beat Air Force, 3-0, in a women's soccer exhibition match Friday night, Aug. 22, at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The game was the first ever under the lights for the women's team since permanent lights were installed at the stadium in the spring of 2003.
The game was scoreless for the first 37 minutes and the shots were even. However, in the 37th minutes, CU's Fran Munnelly dribbled through the Falcon defense at the top of the box and fired a shot from 15 yards out to the top right corner. Falcon goalkeeper J.J. Wolf made a leaping attempt to save the shot, but it deflected off of her hands.
Colorado scored two more goals in the second half and dominated play with a 15-2 advantage in total shot attempts. CU's Orly Ripmaster scored at 59:43 on a header off of a perfect corner kick by Kathryn Grandinetti. In the 64th minutes, Tricia Regan gave the Buffs a 3-0 lead when she collected a loose ball from seven yards out.
Buff goalie Nikki Resnick played the whole game and made five saves. Wolf played the first half for the Falcons and made five saves. Fellow senior Jennifer Monson played the final 45 minutes and made six saves.
Colorado out-shot Air Force, 23-9 overall and 14-6 on goal.
The Falcons were 0-2 in the exhibition games this season and will open the regular season with a pair of home games on Parents' Weekend. Air Force hosts Northern Illinois on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. and then Fairfield on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m.
