Falcons improve to 4-1 with win over Drake

Air Force scored once early and once late as the Falcons defeated Drake, 2-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match, Friday night, Sept. 12, at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.
Air Force improved to 4-1 on the season, the team's best start since moving to Division I in 1996. It equals the best start in school history as the 1993 team also started 4-1 at the Division II level. Drake fell to 3-2 overall this season.
AFA's first shot found the back of the net as Leigh-Anne Withers scored at the 8:07 mark. Jennifer Rowland made a pass across the top of the box and Withers' shot went high to the far corner for her first goal of the season.
Drake out-shot Air Force, 10-8 overall and 6-3 on goal. The Falcons were held to just two shots until the final two minutes of the game when the team's third shot beat Bulldog keeper Kate Stack.
Elaine Tatarek's first goal of the season came at 88:20 and gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Ashley Parker made a long pass over the defense that Tatarek collected down the left side of the field Tatarek dribbled the ball 20 yards and fired a shot over the head of Stack.
Falcon senior J.J. Wolf made six saves in her second shutout of the season. In five games this season, she has allowed just four goals. Stack made one save for DU.
Air Force if off until Sept. 19 when the team travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif., for a tournament. The Falcons face Cal Poly SLO on Sept. 19 and then Baylor on Sept. 21.
