Falcons fall to Cal Poly, 3-0

Air Force suffered just its second loss of the season as 23rd-ranked Cal Poly defeated the Falcons, 3-0, in the first game of the Cal Poly Women's Soccer Invitational, Friday, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Cal Poly improved to 7-0 this season while Air Force fell to 4-2.
In the second minute of the game, Mustang Heidi Spink stole the ball in a hard slide tackle and crossed the ball to about four yards out. Falcon goalkeeper J.J. Wolf couldn't corral the ball as it fell to the carpet and Mustang forward Alexa Jontulovich was there to put the ball into the back of the net for the early and eventually game-winning goal.
The Falcons nearly tied the game in the 40th minute when midfielder Cookie Day crossed a ball into the Mustang's goal box. Mustang goalkeeper Liz Hill came charging out to make a diving save against an oncoming Falcon forward. Hill had four saves on six shots.
In the 79th minute, the Falcon defense failed to clear the ball in their own goal box. Mustang forward Sharon Day stole the ball 20 yards out and beat the Falcon goalkeeper to the right corner to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
The scoring was capped at the 86th minute with Day scoring from eight yards on the right side off a pass from freshman midfielder Heidi McQuitty.
Air Force returns to action on Sunday as the Falcons face the Baylor Bears in the second round of the Cal Poly Invitational, Sept,. 21, at 12 p.m.
