Falcons Sweep Lobos (3-0) to Win Conference Opener

The Air Force volleyball team played like a group on a mission, stunning visiting New Mexico in three straight (32-30, 30-22, 30-28) in their first Mountain West game of the season. The win snaps an eight-match losing streak against the Lobos, dating back to 1999. Air Force improves to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.
"We played with intensity and confidence," head coach Penny Lucas-White said. "Our team knows they can win matches and they are playing that way."
The Falcons were led by the powerful attacking duo of Delavane Diaz and Lamecca Jefferson. Diaz had 18 kills and just two errors on 33 attacks (.485 percent). Jefferson notched 15 kills, and also had just two errors. She hit a team season-high .619 percent to lead all attackers.
Diaz and libero Jenalee Burke each notched nine digs, while setter Kristin Huitt had 37 assists and six digs. The team finished the match hitting .371, notching 45 kills and just nine errors on 97 attacks. Over 1,000 fans witnessed the offensive onslaught, as the Cadet East Gymnasium was overflowing with excited fans.
The Falcons will return to action next weekend when the host BYU (Oct. 3) and Utah (Oct. 4).
